mega manga tutorial by EatToast mega manga tutorial by EatToast
it's giant!

here it is, a tutorial from this drawing [link] on how i do traditional manga pages! this goes for serious comics i do, and parody ones. :)

the file is big, so you can download it if you want to see it full size!

i hope this helps everyone who's been asking me questions about this kind of thing lately! if you have any other questions i didn't answer in the tutorial, please ask! i'm not a professional manga artist or anything, but i'll answer to the best of my ability! :)

enjoy!

Which markers do you suggest? I cannot afford copic XD and there are so many kinds of markers

Prismacolor markers are great to work with and are widely available. The alcohol marker market has widely expanded in the last few years, and there are a lot of generic brands out there, for example DickBlick has their own line out now, but I've never used them before.

Very nice and clear progression. Not a quill user but I do like to use brushes to add life to the lines.

Love this! Erm I am a beginner with this whole nib pen thingo, I have yet to buy one though, but I was thinking if I should buy one because I use a pigment liner, not satisfied with it though, I can't create smooth and thin lines. Should I get one(Nib pens)? I presume it is quite expensive :X

You can get nib pens at most art stores, most of them come with a variety of nibs. Depending on what kind you get, most are about $10-15 (nibs included).

Hi~! This tutorial is INCREDIBLE~! I may sound stupid but are you a mangaka? You certainly have potential~! Quick question: what colors do you use for skin tone? And do you use a colorless blender?
Reply
:iconeattoast:
EatToast Featured By Owner Dec 7, 2011  Professional Traditional Artist
Thank you! I'm not a mangaka, but maybe when I'm out of school I will have more time to devote to getting some work published. For skin tones I usually go for a lightish peach to a range or browns and mix them with each other. I find that colorless blenders dilute the colors more than blend them together.

Hope that helps!

No, I study at a regular University. The art program there is actually quite small.

Question: I see after you inked it, all the pencil sketches went away... Did you go over the page with an eraser, or transfer the drawing?
